Whenever you add a domain as hosted in some account, you usually set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that specific company. On their end, three records are created automatically right after the Internet domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain name where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that handles the e-mails for that particular Internet domain. The site and the email hosting are usually considered to be one thing, when they're in reality two different services. Having separate records for them will permit you to have them with different providers if you wish. As an illustration, some new service provider might have exceptional uptime for your site, but you may not want to switch your emails from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain name to the first and MX records to have the e-mails with the second, you could get the best of both providers. These records are checked when you wish to open a website or send an email - in any case, the company whose name servers are used for the Internet domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you will see the needed website or your email is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, included with our Linux semi-dedicated servers, will permit you to see the A and MX records for every one of the domains or subdomains in your account and if required, to update any of them or set up new ones. Controlling these records is very easy since all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes only a few more clicks and if you experience any problems, you can check out our educational videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to offer you total control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are switching your e-mails to a different company and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
