Established in 2001, the Dot NAME top-level domain extension is the single TLD meant for personal web pages only. These domain names can include personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other labels people are known by. At the beginning, just third-level registrations were permitted, so if you wanted to register john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already grabbed 3rd-level names remained active.
